Is This Real

As a youth growing up in the 60's I enjoyed watching slap stick comedy in shows such as The Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy and others. This dates me because I only had black and white TV until I was married in the 70's, which these shows only came out in black & white. Times were much different because we knew that the tumultuous actions were not real, there was no confusion as to phantasm and actual life. As a baby boomer I was not raised in a permissive houshold and because my childhood was very short, I grew up fast. Dealing with reality was normal even as an adolescent. I could differentiate between television/movies and actuality, I did not live in a fantasy world.
I don't have time or space to discuss the why and wherefore as to how we derived at the present predicament. Common sense is really not common anymore. One person I respect is Mike Holmes of the show Holmes Makes It Right, on the DIY channel. I too believe if you do something, do it right the first time even if the cost is more. He has a new show on the DIY Network called Buy It Right which brings out the essential aspects of clear thought. It is amazing how adults when buying a home don't know what to look for. They are caught up in the dream world and can't envision resposibilities of ownership. Red Green says about men "If they (women) can't find you hansom, they should find you handy." I hope it's the former because most households today are not handy.
I do have to say that the advertising conglomeration and the media tries to play down the task that need to be taken care of. I don't have the statsistics as to commercials for products that emphasize 'no maintenance required' but I know I have seen ads to this affect. Frankly there is nothing on a home that is maintenance free, reduced possably, but still something periodically must be done. I can't tell you how many times I have looked at homes that have been totally neglected. Unfortunatly the problem does not go away, it only manifests itself into a larger and expensive dilemma.
If you are not not a hands on type of person, it would behoove you to seek out someone who is experienced in taking care of the issues you will encounter or about to. Don't live in a dream world, it could turn out to be a nightmare! Reality will always come around and smack you in the head and especially in your wallet.
